The Carrie Dress – How One Fabric Pushed Me Out of My Comfort Zone

I fell for this fabric even before I knew what I would make with it.

A veil of rare lightness, with a lush botanical print — leaves, flowers, colors that overlap without ever overwhelming each other. The composition, the print quality, that almost ethereal drape… It's no surprise when you know this fabric comes from the house of Cavalli. There's a signature in every inch.

And it's precisely this signature that made me want to step out of my comfort zone.

Because this fabric deserved more than a conservative cut. It called for something freer, more assertive. So I gave it ruffles. Asymmetry. Godets that flutter at the hem.

What might seem exaggerated on another fabric here becomes an obvious choice. That's the magic of an exceptional material — it carries the cut choices with it, it justifies them naturally.
